For the most part, you will find model railroaders are willing to share their techniques and know-how.
We welcome anybody interested in the hobby and are always willing to help in any way we can.
To that point, unfortunately, there are a few individuals who, like in any group or hobby, feel they need to mock, contradict, or just think their way is the only right way. They will belittle anyone who disagrees with them and often make sarcastic remarks when someone asks a question.
Unfortunately, these types of people can and do turn away future hobbyists. We can’t stop these types of people, but we can tell you that if you happen to receive a comment(s) that are belittling, just ignore them and move on.
I bring this up because recently I received a very inconsiderate comment about my glues post.
While I deleted his comment and blocked him from being able to comment on any other previous or new posts, I do want to make sure you understand what my posts are for.
First of all, my way of doing things or how I use the techniques I wrote about in these posts is by far not the only way to do things. The purpose is to give you a reference to help start or enhance your creative juices. By hearing how several people do the same task, you can take the information, use parts of the technique, and add it to your own way to get the results you want.
One of the great things about model railroading is that there is really no wrong way of doing things. If you don’t like the results, you have the ability to tear it out and start over. I have done this many times before.
I have also taken techniques from others, applied them to my own situation, tweaked them until I got the desired effect I was looking for.
This is why I have embraced the motto: “It’s your railroad, your rules.”
Don’t let anyone tell you you’re doing it the wrong way. What works for me will not always work for you.
Just keep in mind that there will always be someone who thinks their way is the only right way.
Until next time,
Happy Railroading!
